Another form of Christian ‘’Self-Mortification’’ Practice, the seldom seen (but still used) ‘’Spungna’’ is a circular shaped cork device, held in the hand of an Adherent to the Practice. The cork is studded with small metal bars (sharpened in some cases). As a Practitioner follows a Procession, They  ‘’strike’’ Their Chest with The Spungna (causing pain). After several hours or subjecting Themselves to The Spunga, serious tissue damage is created. The Practice is done, especially during The Easter Christian Season, to draw attention to ‘’what’’ The Messiah – Jesus Christ -  suffered during His Execution. The Spungna (found mostly practiced in smaller Northern Italian Towns) – is outlaws by The Catholic Church (but still used by ‘’serious’’ Believers in the Ritual).
