Traditional Folk Magic and Religious Beliefs in Ghana (Africa), have concepts regarding disabled children. As with some Cultures, some are seen as being ‘’blessed’’ by The Gods, while other assign them to Evil status. Their disabilities are seen to have been ‘’placed’’ with Them even before Their birth. This is due to Their Family being either cursed or evil themselves. As such, children born with such ailments need to be ‘’assessed’’ by the local Shaman (Witch Doctor). IF it is determined that such a ‘’Spirit Child’’ was blessed by ''Good Spirits’’, They are well regarded and taken care of. If seen as being ‘’made’’ as a result of demonic intentions, The Child is killed ritualistically. By and large such superstitious beliefs are seen as illegal and condemned by modern Law and Governments. But owing to the far flung, still primitive thinking Tribes and Sects that still practice ritual killing of deformed or disabled children – the act is still found in use today in Africa.
