Since first recorded as a ‘’curative’’ around 1,000 BC – ‘’Snake Wine’’ was and still is for some, the ‘’magic elixir’’ by which all illness and maladies can be cured. In The Ancient Far East, venomous Snakes are captured, killed and allowed to ferment in alcohol and herbs. The alcohol supposedly breaks down any poisonous components within the venom which can be then drunk (of course with the Snake’s remains well pickled). The animals meat is not normally consumed. In some cases though – ‘’Patients’’ have died from venom which did not break down into harmless qualities. In addition, the Snake’s blood can be ‘’drained’’ from the remains and drank (much as the ‘’elixir’’ is consumed). In some Asian Cultures, the ‘’pickled’’ reptile blood is drank in a ‘’shot glass’’ and is seen as a powerful aphrodisiac with Asian Men.
