A Funerary Inscription – which dated to 438 BC and Ancient Greek, ''Sit Tibi Terra Levis'' or ''May The Earth Rest on You Lightly'', was quite common. Found on some Memorial Stones (resembling later Headstones, which commonly had quotations carved on them), the phrase was seen as a form of Prayer for the Deceased. Later, in Ancient Rome, it too was found – only uttered more as a passing phrase of ''Good Luck''. Names in remembrance (the Deceased), were by this time carved as well. It was also common in Rome to shorten the often long Latin wording - to STTL. In Roman Armies, the phrase was commonly used as fitting repose for those Men who faced death on a very regular basis.
