Also known as "Sybil", she was a staple of Ancient Greek and Roman Mythology. A Demi-God, she was invested with the power of prophecy. She devoted herself to the service of the God, Apollo. Living near Troy - on the Isle of Marpessus, Sibylla gave her visions to those requesting them, in the form of a riddle. Apollo fell in love with her. She stated that she would reciprocate his feelings if he gave her immortality in the number of sand in a nearly bottle she gathered. Unfortunately, there were only 1,000 grains. Apollo granted her request of long age (but NOT perpetual youth!) Sibylla grew so old and shriveled, that she shrank up to the size of a grain of sand herself. When found thousands of years later, she begged to be put to death by being thrown into The Sea. Her reward for this "mercy", was to impart her gift of prophecy to "special" humans (mainly women).
