According to Ancient Chinese (Taoist) Beliefs, A ‘’Shijie’’ was a type of ‘’self made’’ Immortal Being. For One to be considered a Shijie, He or She needed to ‘’fake’’ Their Own death – by fooling The Gods in The Afterlife. Simply, The Faker staged a funeral, substituting His or Her body with an object so blessed by a Shaman or Witch. This could be some personal item used by The Hoaxer. This was placed in the coffin along with a ‘’legal’’ death certificate. Taoist Belief states that all Souls (in The Afterlife), needed to be registered. Hence, while The Hoaxer ‘’was’’ dead – no Soul was present. This meant The Faker was then seen as Immortal. After pulling off ‘’The Ruse’’, a Shijie needed to abandon all property and relationships – in fact, leaving for some far off Province. Taoists saw such Shijie as living for many years longer than most (perhaps even hundreds of such). However, when The Gods found out about the ruse, The Hoaxer’s coffin was opened and their ‘’Death Certificate’’ was burned. The Shijie ‘’burst’’ into flame – almost immediately. Such Legends were often used as cautionary tales in Ancient Chinese Literature.
