Scitalis

 Also called The Light Serpent , it was a common Middle Ages story in many Bestiaries. The beast was described as a great snake that had skin so reflective, it would dazzle it's victims. Slowing them down, The Scitalis would then devour them! Isidore of Seville (7th Century) wrote of an encounter (which she apparently survived).
