Designed by The Greeks (and used against their Persian enemies), the process of Scaphism is another “top ranking” gruesome way to die. Known as the “Death of Milk and Honey”, the Victim was strapped to a small boat. He would be force fed copious amounts of milk and honey (so much so that the Victims would have severe bouts of diarrhea – fouling themselves). This process was repeated over and over again. This would attract insects (by the thousands). Finally, honey would poured over the Victim and they would be set afloat. The victim would slowly be eaten alive by the insect life! Often, the procedure took several days of bringing the victim back onto shore and REPEATING the method! More often the victim died from septic shock and dehydration (long before the insects). Other variations included the strapping the victim to a tree and covering them with honey. Bees or Wasp Nests would be placed around the feet. Next, the hives would be smashed – causing the insects to sting the person slowly to eventual death.
