A Folk Religion which can be traced to the 1930s and Brazil (South America) – ‘’Santo Daime’’ is a combination of Catholicism, Animism, Spiritualism and various indigenous Tribal Folk Magic Traditions. Often confused with ‘’Voodoo’’, Santo Daime is similar but different in concept. Regarding it’s merging of many Beliefs – from Catholicism come popular local (regional) traditions, seen as forms of ‘’popular piety’’, this is added to Animism or – as we have seen, is the belief that Spirits (Deities, etc.) – take the forms of various Animals and interact with Humankind. Spiritualism components are very similar in practice to Mediumship and being able to ‘’converse’’ with ‘’The Deceased’’. However, it’s separation from other Folk Magic Systems is it’s use of the previously discussed Ayehauasca. This is the mind altering ‘’natural’’ botanic elixir which produces extreme psychotrophic results. These are seen as entering ‘’The Spirit World’’ to Santo Daime Practitioners. Although traditionally, Practitioners do NOT use animal sacrifice, off-shoots Sects – do.
