From Spanish Folklore comes The Sacamanteca. Centuries old, these are said to be Demons in human form (often undefined Shadow Persons), who kill children for their body fat. Seen as ''thin and rake-like'', consuming the fat ''nourishes'' The Sacamanteca, giving them a more ''normal'' appearance. Often linked to stories of Vampires, an older tale tells of a rich Spanish Aristocrat whose young Son suffered a blood borne illness. He hired a Sacamantecas to steal the blood of his young victims (seen as pure), upon which he would transfuse the blood to his Son (as a means to heal him). In addition to the payment for it's services, The Demon was allowed to keep the fat. In 19th Century Spain, the use of human fat was seen as an herbal remedy, practiced by Gypsies. The fat was taken from freshly dead corpses and rendered. It was used as a salve and in some cases ingested. This too is seen by some as an origin for later Sacamanteca ''myths''. Additionally, several early 20th Century Spanish serial killers killed to ingest human fat seeing themselves as incarnated Sacamanteca ''Spirits''.
