A somewhat archaic term, ''Preternatural'' was possibly first coined by Catholic Theologian Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century AD. The term describes ''something'' outside of what is considered normal. It was quickly adopted by the late Middle Ages, to be associated with Witchcraft and Witches. Different from the widely known term ''Supernatural'' – in that this word is firmly associated with possible Demonic or Paranormal Activity, in today's parlance – Preternatural is most associated with Spiritual or Folk Magic.
