Surviving ''Ghost Towns'' in The United States are seldom found today. But one such in The State of New Jersey, not only bears a strange name, but an even stranger backstory. The former ''Town'' is known as Ong's Hat. It's site is near Pemberton Township in Burlington County. Ong's Hat dates to 1778 as a small Hamlet, which may have been no more than a few ''shacks'' which were commandeered by British hired, Hessian Troops. Those few locals, were known for their creation of, and selling illegal alcohol in later years. The origins of the name ''Ong'' is further debated. The most common? A Tavern once existed there and was owned by one Mr. Ong. He was noted for His ''loud and boisterous'' parties, which He ''ended'' each night by throwing His ''silk Hat onto The Tavern Floor to signify the end of festivities''. What little structures were long lost to the harsh Winter Season, so that ''Ong's Hat'' is a simple Map relic from bygone days. A major Interstate thru the area is about the only vestige of ''modernism''. But other ''stories'' center around Ong's Hat being a ''Mecca'' to ''The Weird''. It was said that in the 1940s, The US Government conducted all manner of experiments, most involving ''inter-dimensional'' access ports. Some also state, Ong's Hat has it's fair share of Ghosts and Spirits, based on the many ''dumped bodies and skeletons'' found here and there, since the 1930s. To be true, One will experience a very strange ''feeling'' when driving thru Ong's......palpable and of course – inexplicable.
