Nokken

Predominately a Germanic legend, The Nokken are very dangerous Water Spirits (Demons). They are Shapeshifters and can become any ''pleasing'' form to trap their wayward victims. The Nokken like Children (a ''quick'' meal). Human Males are often lured to their ''Hunting Grounds'' (a dark lake, swamp or related) by the sounds of ''unearthly music'' only to find the most ''beautiful'' woman they have ever beheld. As a ''female'', The Nokken will always present itself with ''long, coal black hair and eyes''. Females too, are ''seduced'' by a ''handsome man''. Their true form is said to be too horrifying to behold. Despite this, one can be approached by a Nokken. If one is sitting by one of their lakes, and they are playing a musical instrument with great skill, a Nokken will be entranced. Nokkens each have their own ''hidden name'' known only to other Nokkens. If a human can learn this, by simply saying it's name aloud will instantly kill it. It is said that a Nokken's name is written on the bottom of a rock, somewhere near it's water source.
