From many Norwegian fables, The Nisse were said to be Fairy creatures that appear as tiny (2 to 3 foot) - little old men . They were human clothes and have the ability to become normal size when it is needed. They are said to roam the lands looking for poor human Farmers who have no help or other problems with their crops. They will offer to help the Farmer in exchange for room and board. After their chores are completed, they will resume their regular size and disappear. Refusing a Nisse is also very bad luck as they will make sure the dissenting Farmer's crops never grow (or related calamity befalls the Farmer).
