Traced to Ancient Germanic, Russian and later Scottish origins – a ''Need Fire'' was a specially constructed, open air Hearth, used in certain Rituals and Ceremonies. Associated with Pagan (and later Neo-Pagan Beliefs), Need Fires were formed from wooded constructs and set aflame. Often, with Prayers and Invocations to various Deities, sacrifices were also commonly used with a Need Fire. The practice of ''Burnt Offerings'' is also associated with Need Fires.
