Monsieur Assonquer

A Louisiana Voodoo Loa – ''Monsieur Assonquer'' was invoked to produce and protect Wealth. His symbolism was Gold Coins (so consecrated to Him). Thus, Gold was a primary ''need'' in His veneration. But most who sought out such Folk Magic ''remedies'', were poor – and the price of a Gold Coin was impossible. They often brought pennies for Assonquer to ''double''. If The Loa felt He was so ''honored'', He would double what the poor person owned. Payment could be thru ''Barter'' (animals, food and labor provided to a Voodoo Priestess). And woe be upon those who stole a ''consecrated'' Gold Coin. Doing would mean not only eventual death ''most unpleasant'' – but the complete loss of One's monies (or ability to get any).
