Mingqi

Ancient Chinese believed in the creation and use of ''Mingqi'' These were specially made articles into which (it was thought), The Spirits of One's Ancestors were encouraged to ''take up Residence''. These articles could be anything from cups, vases, musical instruments, etc. The most common form was a Mingqi Statue. Made of wood or ceramic, these statues were used to give a Spirit a ''home''. They would be placed in Homes, for a Period – and then later were moved to the actual Tomb of The Dead. Whatever the article was, it was thought to provide some level of comfort (being remembered) in Heaven.
