The Miwok Tribe of Northern California, is a relatively ''small'' Native American Peoples. Once settling from The Northern Coast of California and The Pacific Ocean to as close as what would become The Nevada-California Border, The Miwok can be traced back to among some of the ''First People'' to migrate to The North American Continent from The ''Great Land Strait'', some 20,000 years prior. The Miwok Mythology was ''Nature based'', in that it's Deities were seen as Animals. As such, certain forms were venerated and never outwardly killed or harmed. The North American Coyote was one such. ''Me-let-te'' or ''Coyote Man'', was Their principle ''Creator Being''. Me-let-te was part of a ''Race of Beings'' which were, while Animals – seen as ''Human'', according to Miwok Beliefs. According to Them, The Coyote was once in fact, Human. After ''They'' ''departed'' the ''Earthly Plain'' – They were transformed into Spirits. These Spirits still inhabit what was regarded as ''Sacred Animals''. Me-let'Te ''gave birth'' to other still living species such as The Condor, Falcon, and Mountain Lion. Each ''Animal-Human'' Spirit ''made and gave'' various staples of Life to The Miwok, to include – Grain, Fire, Ethics and the ability to procreate.
