Dating to possibly the 7th Century AD under Jewish Rabbinical Law, the well known term ''May God Have Mercy on Your Soul'' is a legal exclamation rendered after a finding of death was levied against certain Crimes (Heresy, Murder and Treason being the most popular). In the sense of The Middle Ages, the Phrase was used in an elaborate procedure, by which a Judge would don black gloves and a black cap (sometimes with a face mask), before He rendered a Sentence of Death. After which, the phrase ''May God Have Mercy on Your Soul'' was thus pronounced. Adopted by most Western Cultures by the 14th Century AD (to include The Holy Roman Church), the phrase is still in use by those Nations that invoke and enact a death sentence upon certain violations.
