Maroons

In Jamaica, The ''Maroons'' are an small ethnic Class, descended from Slaves transported to The Island by The Spanish (as workers), in the 15th Century AD. Thought to be of Moorish descent, after their eventual Freedom, most retreated to the Mountain Regions of Jamaica and establish their own Culture – and of course, Folk Religion. Similar in many respects to ''Voodoo'' and related, Maroons deeply believe in ''Spiritual Possession''. If One is ''not careful'', they can (and will) be ''taken over by Demons''. They have both ''Good and Bad'' Spiritual infestations. Maroon Shaman routinely hold special Ritual Dances, designed to put possible Possession Victims into ''deep trances'' (also induced by ingestion of herbal chemical formulations). It is alos said, that IF a Maroon Shaman cannot ''remove'' a Spirit, it is common for the victim to be ''sacrificed'' as a means of ''killing The Demon and preventing it from escaping into another''. The Practice is said to be archaic and ''no longer practiced'', but Maroons deeply shun outside contact as well so.........
