A Haitian Voodoo Deity, ''Marinette'' has several personifications. Normally shown was a Female (young girl), She is often shown standing in the midst of flame or fire. This is relative to The Catholic connection with Anima Sola or ''The Forsaken (Lost) Soul'' and is representative of The Catholic ideology of ''Purgatory''. Sometimes, Marinette is shown with ''broken chains'' on Her wrists. This is to represent that Her Spirit can free one from bondage (relative to 18th Century Slavery under Spain). Marinette is also sometimes viewed as a complete skeleton (although this is rare). Although animal sacrifice involves the burning of Roosters and Pigs (both of which must be naturally black in color), Marinette is not seen as a malicious Deity. She can cause violence during Human possession however.
