Possibly one of the oldest forms of torture and execution, ''Lapidation'' was death by stoning. Most ancient cultures used this method for everything from Murder to Adultery to Treason. In practice, the Victim was placed into a circle of citizens (participation was considered a Public Service). Rocks and stones (no larger than the palm of one's hand and no smaller than a modern Golf Ball) were used. Normally, the Judge or the initial accuser would “throw the first stone”, striking the victim at speed. Soon, others would join in, pelting the Victim. Eventually, the victim would fall and die from blunt force trauma (normally to the head). Variations of the practice included the burying of the convicted up to their waist (with their arms tied). The method was used on both sexes. The practice is still used today in many Middle Eastern countries (even Codified as to how the act is carried out!). A written “Law” does state that IF the accused escapes (unlikely), he or she will be banished (set free).
