A popular form of 11th Century AD ''Funerary Art'' (Memorial) – The so called ''Lanterns of The Dead'' were a series of French Towers which were built to house a light (lantern). This illumination was light at night, to ''show'' the location of a Village, Town or City's – Cemetery. A type of ''Perpetual Light'' (as is called in some Cultures), The Stone ''Lanterns'' were rounded and featured an Entrance Door and interior stairway. This lead to an upper level, were lamps were hung. It was the job of a Caretaker to light The Tower nightly. Some ''Lantern'' were as tall as 15-feet in height and many were made of masoned stone. The practice of ''Lanterns of The Dead'' would spread to several other Nations as well. Variations can still be found in use today.
