In Ancient Japan, Witches and ‘’Spiritual Healers’’ – were called ‘’Kitsune-Mochi’’. These were Female Folk Magic Practitioners who could also Shapeshift. Most commonly, Mochi ‘’transformed’’ into a Red Fox. These particular animals were seen (and are to some), as ‘’Special Spirits’’ – akin to the European belief in ‘’Familiar Spirits’’. Often Mochi lived around Humans to observe Those who would most benefit from Their magic. Normally, IF a Human treated The Mochi well (fed and care for), it would bestow it’s magic onto The Human. In the case of the opposite, or if a Human was ‘’Evil’’ – The Mochi would use their ’’gifts’’ to brig calamity. Other versions of The Mochi Mythos, has Them also living (for a period) as ‘’beautiful Women’’ (perhaps too beautiful to be natural). They can control ‘’how and when’’ They Shapeshift.
