Dating to Medieval Japan, the Practice of ''Kubizuka'' was the construction of Stone Pillar Markers which where placed on the top of a Grave (very much as The Western Concept of a Tombstone). However, - Kubizuka was only reserved for Warriors who were beheaded in battle. This practice included those who were also beheaded for dishonor. The Pillar (which were several feet in height), was quite literally a ''Headstone''. In cases of ''mass beheadings'' – The Kubizuka was installed as well. Typically, only persons of note (Wealth and Nobility) – would have their Family Names engraved into The Stone.
