An Ancient superstition, ''Knocking On Wood'' is related to the Ancient Celtic ''practice'' by people who ventured into unknown stands of wood and forests. As a mean of invoking ''protection'' from Forest Spirits, the oldest tree was found within. One needed to knock on The Wood several times – to produce protection when traversing thru said Woods. Later, when Christianity took form, the practice in kind – was attached to wooden made Crosses. One ''touched'' the Holy Device before undertaking some ''hazard'' or ''danger''. Many Cultures adopted related practices of ''touching or rapping'' on wood as a means of producing ''Good Luck'' or to ''vanquish'' possible ''Bad Luck''.
