These creatures are another staple of Chinese myth and fable. Traditionally non-corporeal Beings, they can take on an "Impish" appearance. These strange creatures like to clean and sweep non-stop, and are highly prized to have working for you. Their capture is accomplished by the Act of bring two different dead animals at a crossroads. This allows one to trap them in a box. The Kitchen Fairy is carnivorous, and in this is the problem. After one year of "service", they expect to be "fed" 1 human! To avoid this, one must tell them that they have broken a pot or dishes and still owe their human Master work (for another year). It is said they are NOT very bright in this regard! To finally get rid of a Kitchen Fairy, one must go back to the particular crossroad they trapped them at, and place a box of ash with bits of silver inside. When another human comes by and opens the box (thinking he has found a treasure), The Kitchen Fairy will go with their "new" Master.
