From Feudal Japan , The Kamikiri were very small, insect-like creatures. These are associated with the Ancient Japanese tradition of Hair Cutting. In Ancient Japan, a Woman who shorn her hair was preparing to enter a life of Religion. Typically, Women did NOT cut their hair. Doing so was often a criminal act. Cutting a Woman s hair was also used as an ultimate punishment. The Kamikiri were malicious creatures who fed on hair. They were quite happy to live near Monasteries and eating leftovers. However, without this, The Kamikiri would often swarm and attack Village after Village. They would a track only Women. Many felt that The Kamikiri were controlled by Yokai (or Demons). If one could make a proper offering to The Yokai, he might recall his Kamikiri swarms.
