With MANY versions to the origins of The Japanese ‘’Janjanbi’’ or ‘’Ghost Lights’’, each are unique to the Region which tells Their story. Of the most popular in Nara, Honshu Province – at various times in the year, a series of ‘’Glowing Blue Flames’’ are often seen – just before dusk and again at dawn. These ‘’Flames’’ are said to be the Ghosts of a pair of ‘’star crossed Lovers’’, whose Families would not allow Them to marry. Despondent, the pair entered into a ‘’Murder-Suicide’’ pact. As punishment, The Ancient Gods cursed Them to return each night as formless, Flames – each chasing after the other and NEVER catching the other. This was for all Eternity it seems. Most ‘’Modernists’’ cite the present of decomposing organic material (methane) as the source of The Janjanbi…..Or at Least That is What it is Thought to Be!
