From Mayan Mythos – ''Ixtab'' was a ''Death Goddess''' associated with ''Hanging'' (normally suicide). Unlike Christian and related Western Religions, Suicide was not viewed as a major Sin by The Mayans. Still, the Suicide Victim's ''Soul'' needed to be guided into The Afterlife. As such, Ixtab took them into that ''existence'' after their death. Normally shown in Temple Art as a ''Hanging Woman'', Ixtab was first made known to Europeans (Spanish) around the 16th Century AD. Her ''Cult'' was always a question of great debate among Scholars, based on the view that Suicides were NOT that ''excepted'' in Mayan Culture as previously thought.
