Actually attempting to Film a ‘’serious’’ Horror/Sci-Fi ‘’treat’’, American International Pictures 1957s ‘’Invasion of The Saucer Men’’ morphed into unintentional comedy. Made in Black & White (which was a pity), the Movie cashed in on the popular UFO/Alien ‘’Culture’’ developing around The World as a result of numerous sightings and contacts. An alien Space Disc lands in a backwoods Town and encounters a pair of Drunk stumbling thru the woods. The Occupants, small bodied Extraterrestrials with gigantic veined heads and massive eyes, inject Him with a substance from Their nails. One Drunk Dies, but His friends runs away, Later a pair of Teenaged Lovers – driving thru The Woods, accidentally strikes and kills an Alien. They run off to report the encounter and accident. When checked by Police, all They find is the dead Drunk and (being that teenagers lie), see it as a case of Manslaughter. The Alien Body was collected by it’s ‘’friends’’, but the dead Alien arm falls off – and has a life of it’s own, going around causing mischief. Eventually, proof of an Alien Invasion comes out, and The US Military counters and destroys The Craft. But it turns out that the Occupants escaped. While They signal for ‘’help’’ from Their Planet, the now exonerated Teen leads His friends in a battle against the invaders. Turns out, The aliens cannot stand strong light. Surrounded by kids in Their ‘’Jalopies’’ (Hot Rods, of course), They all turn on Their vehicle headlights, causing The Aliens to vanish in a puff 0of smoke. As silly as the above sounds, this ‘’B’’-Movie actually fared well and was still shown in American Drive-Ins well into the late 1960s. Seen as a classic piece of ‘50s ‘’Schlock’’, ‘’Invasion of The Saucer Men’’ is a must see for Fans of The Genre.
