It was a common ''Belief'' in 12th Century AD Europe, to on occasion, conduct a rather gruesome Ritual called a ''Human Heart Burial''. This was however, NOT seen as a means of disrespect for The Deceased, but a form of ''Great Honor''. Various Rulers and Persons of Renown, who – for many reasons were ''Foundations'' of their Kingdoms, or so venerated, that after their Death, their Heart was excised from their body – and often buried in a separate location from their actual ''physical'' Remains. Examples would be Scotland's Robert The Bruce or England's Richard I. Seen as an honor for those whose very ''Soul or Heart'' was ''The Kingdom or Country'' itself – a specialized container and often Marker or Tomb was constructed for ''The Heart''. Found in some early Eastern and Western Catholic Religious Rituals, ''Heart Burials'' would even continue well into the late 19th Century AD – with the last ''known'' in 2011 (The Crown Prince of Hapbsurg).
