From Scandinavia is the Myth of The Hulders. They are Forest Spirits normally seen as very beautiful women -with tails!. The mythic creature is a staple in some Germanic Countries as well. The Hulder live near water and like to sing songs (and are possibly related to Sea Nymphs or Sirens). They were first documented in story and fable around the 13th Century. They were very helpful to Charcoal Burners and workers (often watching their Kilns and pits while they rested). The Hulder expected to be repaid with part of the workers meal. A Pagan-Christian link to their origin stated that God came to visit a woman who lived in the woods (she impressed him with 12 children!). Unprepared for his visit, some of her children were dirty. She hid them in the woods. God apparently didn't like this, so he made these childre.....The Hulders.
