A ''religious phenomenon'' – ''Holy Laughter'' is associated with ''Charismatic'' Christianity. First recorded as early as 1800 AD, especially in North America – normally, the bombastic preachings of a Minister to a more than receptive (and equally zealous Congregation), causes a form of fervor. This trance-like, meditative state can sometime produce unusual vocal responses – namely outbursts of laughter. Seen as ''joy before God'', most that experience the phenomenon report (later) that same feeling of joy and peace (often unaware that they have been laughing out of control). Modern Science attributes ''Holy Laughter'' to the similar ''Speaking in Tongues'' as well as being ''touched by The Holy Spirit''. The phenomenon is experienced by large groups of similar minded and driven charismatic Believers of Christianity. Medicine cites as well, that why a definitive cause is unknown, such people that experience these phenomenon do show abnormally high levels of electrical stimulation being generated by their brains.
