From The Galla Peoples of Ethiopia (Africa), The Holawaka was a Messenger (Bird) Spirit of The Gods. Man (Eons ago), was made to be immortal. This immortality was achieved through a message delivered to each Human by The Holawaka (upon their time to rejuvenate). Much as a Snake, The Messenger would tell Man to shed his old skin, and he would remain young). One day, Holawaka saw a real Snake preparing to eat a meal . Hungry, Holawaka told the reptile that he would give him the secret of immortality IF he gave him his food (which the Snake readily did). This so angered The Gods, that they gave a sickness to Holawaka and forbid his contact with Mankind. It is said that his cries of pain can still be heard at night in Ethiopia.
