From Norse Mythology, Hel was a Being who ruled in The Norse Netherworld also called ''Hel''. Authorized to rile by The Supreme God Odin, Hel (The Being) is often seen as both masculine and feminine. Much of Hel's ''origins'' very much mirror those of Greek and later Christian dogmas of Hades and of course Hell. While Hel (the location), was not seen as a form of ''damnation'', it was also not Valhala the place where honored Norse dead (Warriors) went. Hel was seen as the final destination for Norse who died from disease or old age never knowing battle or heroism. Cold and desolate, Hel was set up the same as Valhala. A large communal Hall existed with food provided. The Being Hel, held Court from this location. Many Historians draw parallels to the development of Hades (Greek), Shoal (Hebrew) and Hell (in terms of Purgatory and Christian), from Norse ''Hel''. The same is true for The Being known as Hel. While somewhat nebulous, Hel appears to have been ''cast out'', much the same way as Lucifer was from Christian heaven. It is unclear if Hel's transgression was due to an attempted ''coup'' or not. Odin is said to visit Hel occasionally, bring ''good wishes'' from the relative's of the ''honored Fallen'' in Valhala.
