Flagstaff, Arizona (US), is noted for a few interesting points note to Visitors. One of them NOT found in Tourism manuals is The Monte Vista Hotel. Built in 1929 (at the end of Prohibition), The Hotel was unique in that it's ''Owners'' were just about everybody who lived in Town! The Residents decided that a joint venture in Ownership in such a Business was not only good for The City, but for their revenue. But The Residents soon grew tired of Management and sold it early to a more idealistic Owner. This person had ''connections'' in ''deep vices'' to Mobsters and Organized Crime who could not ''vacation'' in Los Angeles, California due to ''The Law''. So The Monte Vista Hotel became (for a brief period) – ''The Spot''. In the basement of The 65-Room building, gambling and illegal alcohol sales were an ''everyday, 24-hrs.'' operation. Upstairs, prostitution flourished. In fact several ''hits'' may have happened there, as well as several murders both against and by the prostitutes. ''Cleaned up'' in the 1950s, The Monte Vista was still seen as ''seedy'' until new Owners renovated and started using it as a proper accommodations (1970s & 1980s). But now started the ''stories''. From the ''sounds of a Party'' coming from the basement, to the smell of ''cheap perfume'', The Monte Vista is still the ''center of fun'' for the ''long dead''. A common tale, Visitors report that ''Room Service'' knocks at night with an ''order'' – only for the confused Guest to find.....no One there!
