As we have seen, Louisiana is a VERY Haunted place. With nearly 400 years of History as a former Colony of France, Britain and America as a State, New Orleans is one of her Cities seeped in a colorful - and at times VERY dark history. The Lalaurie Family were wealthy Southern Merchantmen. Moving to New Orleans in 1831, they brought a fashionable two-story home near Rue Bourbon (Bourbon Street). The Mistress of Lalaurie Mansion was Dauphine Lalaurie.
A "proper Southern Woman", she like others on The Era, The Lalaurie Family owned Slaves. The odd thing was, she went through MANY Slaves. No one really questioned as to "where" all the Slaves were going...until one day. The Lalaurie Mansion caught fire one day. As fire was a major threat, Fire Brigades responded quickly. What they found chilled even "White People" to the bone. Apparently, Dauphine liked to tormebring and torture her Slaves. Chains, cells, whips etc. - were found. She also apparently skinned many of them. The bodies and bones were stored in her Basement. She had chained one of her victims in the kitchen and left him unattended. The helpless Slave was able to knock over a cooking pot (which caused the fire). A Mob soon formed for Lalaurie, but she escaped. She was never heard from again.
Renovated many times over the years, the bottom portion of the once Mansion is now an Office Building, the top a small Museum. It is said that crying is often heard at night, as are screams. Ghostly shadows are a constant fixture moving through walls. It is even said that Dauphine is permanently cursed to wander the once bloody halls of Lalaurie Mansion.
