Haltija

 From Finland, The Haltija were Gnome and Elf-like creatures that guarded and helped Humans who invoked their assistance. They are classified into Elemental types. Water and Forest Haltija were the most common. They could cure illness and disease and on some occasions possess their Hosts. Compared to the Christian concept of Guardian Angels , it was said that some Haltija's fight among themselves (and thus cause havoc with crops and fishing). Burning a wooden log or beating it with a stick will make one's Haltija go away (from protecting as well as from possessing a person).
