Another Southern American ''tradition'' – ''Haint Blue'' is a light shade of blue paint used on some Southern Homes. Placed (coated), onto the outside roofing of a porch or overhang – the color was said to ward off any “Evil Spirits'' which might try to ''invade'' a Home. Sometimes, Haint Blue was also used on the interiors (ceilings only) of bedrooms. The Gullah Tribe of Africa – of which some where enslaved, brought the ideology with them. In their Culture, berries and other indigo producing plants served as ''paint''. In a more modern view. It is found that Wasps and Spiders will not built nests or webs on ceiling with Haint Blue paint (another reason for it's popularity, apparently). The term ''Haint'' is a ''Southernism'' for ''Haunt'', which is the term in The South (and some parts of England) – for ''Ghost''.
