''Gun Blowing'' was a method of Execution seen in 17th to the mid-19th Century (especially in India). The process involved the placing of a Convicted person (tied by hand and feet, of course), and placing them back first – against the barrel of a primed cannon barrel. Upon firing the gun, the victim was literally blow to pieces. Documentation states that the legs remained under the Cannon, with the arms being thrown outwards. The torso and head were normally “vaporized”. The process was used originally by The Mugdals (India) as punishment. Picked up the The British Army, They used the method to punish mutinous Native Militia (The Sepoy Rebellions of 1857). It is estimated some 600 men were killed by Gun Blowing.
