In Ancient Chinese Mythos – in particular tales concerning the inner workings of The Underworld ‘’Guaiwang’’ was a frightening Master in The ‘’Dead City’’ of Youdu. Youdu, as we have seen is where all Souls who are in need of ‘’correction’’ go. Divided into Five Kingdoms or Realms – each has it’s own Emperor and Magistrate. Further, each has it’s own Ruling Master in charge. Guaiwang was tasked with ‘’Hungry Ghosts’’, or those Souls who have no Family to offering ritual offerings. Aa such, They often return to Earth as ‘’Haunting Spirits’’, each with it’s own special torment. Guaiwang ‘’teaches’’ such Evil Spirits Their ‘’craft’’ and ‘’assigns Them’’ to Their particular ‘’haunting’’. Conversely, it is Guaiwang who protects Hungry Ghosts from the eventual exorcism from Priests and Shaman.
