From The Italian ''Grotta'' (or Cave/Cavern), in Satanic Beliefs – a Grotto was a secretive location by which Followers of Satanism could perform their Rituals and Ceremonies. And while most such Enclaves sprung up in Urban Centers (Cities) – by which no such geological features existed as a norm, some were formed in outer laying Regions, away from The Cities. The use of such locations by Satanists, as well as those who follow Folk Magic Beliefs of all forms, may go back many Centuries. Self-professed Satanist Anton LaVey ''created'' the first such ''modern'' Grotto in 1966, with Chapters being allowed to call themselves ''Grottos''. However, by 1979, the use of the term in association with LaVey was discontinued, with any Fo9llowers who still associated in such locations as being ''outside'' Satanist Beliefs.
