As far back as the 15th Century AD, The ''Girdle Measure'' was a Folk ''Magic'' remedy/device created by Healers in Folk Medicine. The cloth or linen device was a Girdle which was worn around the abdomen of the afflicted. Measuring point were either drawn or stitched into the Corset and were used to ''measure'' the effects of ''Black Magic'' or possibly a placed Hex on the Person. Most commonly, IF a person was under ''attack'' by Fairies, a difference in both height and weight was often the cause.
