Gidim

 From Ancient Mesopotamia, are stories about The Gidim. Gidim are the spirits of the dead who (for whatever reason), cannot rest in peace or go on into The Afterlife. They appear in whatever form needed to attract the attention of The Living. This can be a terrifying visage or a pleasing one. This habit is reflective on the personality of The Gidm in life . The Gidim can be appeased and even chased away by feeding them (or offering to). If a Gidim take you up on dinner you must try to overfed him. This will drive him away.
