''Ghost Story'' (1981)

A Classic 1981 Horror Film based on Horror Maven Peter Straub's 1979 Novel, Ghost Story tells the tale of The Chowder Society (a group of 4 friends who grew up together and met occasionally to regale themselves with stories). The group (although friends for MANY years, all harbor a dark secret ) - of which they themselves ever speak of. In the 1930s, (when young men), a mysterious and beautiful female moved into their Town. All the men were smitten with her. She freely experimented with them all, but one fell madly in love with her. Professing his love one night when they were all at her house for a Party, she refuted his advances and even went as far as to make advances on one of his friends in front of him. Angered he pushes he pushes her. The woman falls and hits her head on the hard floor. Unmoving, the group fears she's dead. Realizing their future lives and careers would be over, they conspire to put her body into her car and drive it to the Lake nearby. The group drives the car into the water. To their additional horror, they witness the woman wake up screaming for help as he drowns. The car sinks into the Lake and is forgotten.

The group keeps the secret to themselves for close to 50 years (living their lives and having Families). Almost 50 years to the date of the accident , the male descendants of the groups all suffer fatalities as a result of their affairs with a mysterious woman. She even resembles the woman who was killed 50 years prior. The resemblance is due to the fact that she IS the ghost of the woman come back for revenge! In a final attack against the last surviving relative, the now gilt ridden group tell local Police of the incident 50 years prior. Doubting the story, the Police go and find the ancient car in the Lake. Removing it, they open the rusted doors only to have the rotted corpse of the woman STEP OUT of the car! She immediately dissolves in the light. With this act of justice , the young relative is saved and the Ghost can now find rest!
