Another Deity seen in several of HP Lovecraft's Tales , The Ghatanothoa is similar in description to The Ancient Greek Monster, Medusa. He is part of The Cult of Ancient Beings known as The Great Old Ones . They inhabit another Dimension and wait for the day when they can rip through their reality into Ours . As with The Gorgon Medusa, anyone who gazes upon the full form of Ghatanothoa will be petrified. However, unlike Medusa, the Victims do not turn to stone, but into a leathery husk . The Brain of the unfortunate remains very much aware (as it were). Freedom unfortunately involves the destruction of the Brain itself (or rather the death pf The Victim).Ghatanothoa uses the combined Brain Power of his Subjects for Power. Some other Old One's have tried to destroy their Associate (with no luck). Some Canons in Lovecraft Lore cite The Ghatanothoa is the first-born of The God Being, Cthulhu. Ghatanothoa appeared in (2) Lovecraft Novels and several similar genre Novels of Contemporary to Lovecraft Robert Howard.
