Funerary Helmet

A ''popular'' Funerary Custom found in England, France and Germany – Funerary Helmets (or Mortuary Helms), was a practice by which a Nobleman (Knight, etc) was so honored in death – with a representation of a War Helmet. This was placed (affixed) onto The Nobleman's Tomb (Effigy, etc). Often, and depending on Region – The Funerary Helmet could be painted in bright colors, or had Religious imagery added. The Custom was found in use from the 13th thru 16th Centuries AD. Helmets were constructed of lighter hammered metals, as they were not ''needed'' for actual Combat. They did reflect the style used however (Nasal, Barbute, Enclosed etc).
