A strange Title to an even stranger Story – The ‘’Legend of Fat Lips’’ is linked to one Dryburgh Abbey, a ruined Monastery near Dryburgh, Scotland. Built in 1150 AD – The Abbey was ruined ‘’destroyed’’ by The English during the Jacobite Revolt of 1745. Not long after, an ‘’Old, Poor Woman’’ took up living in the destroyed Abbey. Living there for many years until Her death – she regularly would tell visitors of a ‘’Spirit’’ She named ‘’Fat Lips’’ – that ‘’helped Her clean up the ruins’’. ‘’He’’ would ‘’sweep, gather wood etc.’’ The name was associated with Her statement that the ‘’Laddie had very Fat Lips’’. Even many centuries after Her death, some Visitors to The Abbey reported hearing ''sweeping noise’’ and even a ‘’Man Whistling’’. Some state that ‘’Fat Lips’’ may be the Ghost of a killed Jacobite Soldier who formed an ‘’attachment’’ to both The Abbey and The Old Women.
