These ''fish'' were written of in The Middle Ages and considered a hazard to Ship navigation on the High Seas. Whole schools of these medium to large sized fish would attach themselves to the hulls of passing ships. This created so much weight, that the ship would be slowed down greatly. Often thought of a a Sea Curse , specially assigned Crewmen would be tasked to watch for them (and use a long Gaff Hook to pry them loose!)
